Help
Short answers to the questions neighbors ask most. Still stuck? Email help@passalong.us. Passalong's AI assistant answers routine questions in a minute or two, and says so at the top of every reply it writes. Reply "person" any time to reach a human.
Where and what
- Passalong covers the Pioneer Valley: the towns of Hampshire, Hampden and Franklin counties in western Massachusetts, from Springfield to Greenfield and the hill towns. Pick yours from the town list when you post.
- There is no app to download. Passalong works in your phone's web browser. To keep it handy, use your browser's Add to Home Screen.
Signing in
- There is no password. Type your email on the sign-in screen and we send you a link and a 6-digit code.
- Tap the link, or type the code in the browser where you asked for it. Both work once, for 30 minutes.
- No email? Check your spam or promotions folder, then ask for a new one. Each link and code works on its own for 30 minutes.
- Signing in on a new phone or computer works the same way. You stay signed in for 90 days.
Posting
- Tap Post, choose Free, For sale or Wanted, add a title, a photo, your town, and a size for kids' things.
- Photos are shrunk and have location data removed before they upload. Please leave children, house numbers and license plates out of them.
- Never put your address or phone number in a listing. Neighbors reach you by email through Passalong, and you share pickup details with the one person you choose.
- Listings stay up for 14 days. We email you two days before one expires, with a button to keep it up for 14 more. Renewing works in the last three days before a listing expires, or after it has expired.
When someone asks
- You get an email with their first name, town and note. Reply to it to answer them directly. Your address stays private until you reply.
- You choose who gets it. First to ask is a fine rule, and so is anything else you like.
- Mark it Pending once someone is picking it up, and Gone once it is picked up, so nobody else asks. The buttons are in every Passalong email about the listing and on the listing itself. Mark it Gone even if it went to someone who never used Passalong.
- Everyone else who asked gets a short note when you mark it Gone.
Changing or removing a listing
- My listings shows everything you have posted, with Pending, Gone, Renew and Delete buttons.
- A listing can't be edited after it is posted. To change the title, price, photos or description, delete it and post it again.
- A listing under review waits for a moderator. You cannot change or delete it until they decide, and you will hear what they decide by email.
Car seats
- Car seats and boosters can be passed on with the brand and model, the date of manufacture, the do-not-use-after date, a photo of the label, and three statements: it has never been in a moderate or severe crash, you checked it for recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls, and it has all its parts plus its manual or a link to the manual.
- Expired seats cannot be posted. If a seat matches a recall, it can be posted only after the maker's free fix is done, and then a moderator checks it before it goes up. Our recall check can miss a recall, so check yourself too.
- Both neighbors accept a short car seat note before posting and before asking.
Your account
- Name and town can be changed in Settings. Neighbors see your first name and town. Your email is shared only when you ask for an item, and only with that poster.
- Deleting your account is in Settings. It removes your account, your listings and their photos.
Safety and problems
- Something wrong with a listing? Use Report on the listing page. Two reports from different neighbors hide it until a moderator looks. A report of an intimate image hides the listing right away. You can also ask us to remove one at passalong.us/takedown.
- A message that looks like a scam? Use the Report this neighbor link in the email, and stop replying.
- Never pay a deposit, never share a code texted to you, and meet in daylight or use porch pickup. More in pickup safety.
