Pickup safety
Almost every Passalong pickup is a bag on a porch. A few habits keep it that way.
- Keep your address private until you've chosen someone. Listings show your town, never your street. Share the address by email with the one person picking up.
- Porch pickup is the easy default. Leave the item out with their name on it, or meet at a busy public place: a library, a grocery store lot, a town hall.
- Pick up in daylight when you can, and tell someone where you're going.
- Bring a friend for big items, and don't invite anyone inside if you'd rather not. "I'll bring it out" is always fine.
- Cash or Venmo is between the two of you. Passalong never handles money. Never pay for something you haven't seen, and never send a deposit to hold an item.
- Watch for the classic scams: someone who can't meet but will send a courier, a check for more than the price, or a request for a code sent to your phone. Report the listing and stop replying.
- Trust your gut. You can always say it's no longer available.
If something goes wrong, report the listing. If you feel unsafe, call 911.
